As part of its Constitutional requirement, the Federal Government conducts a census (a count of the population) every ten years. The purpose of this exercise is to not only determining a localitys representation to Congress but also to provide valuable information to local and state governments that can be used to establish municipal services and budgetary needs.
The latest count was taken on April 15, 2000. Since the City of Rancho Cordova did not exist at the time, accurate information from this tally did not exists until recently when City staff was able to calibrate the data to the City boundary. The data has also been aligned to the Citys adopted Planning Area, a key component of the General Plan process.
NOTE: The City-calibrated data is different than the Rancho Cordova CDP data available from the Census Bureau, as the CDP includes areas that are not within the City Limits. Information for the CDP is also available here in the Short and Long forms (PDF format).
